Discussion Boards - What is their purpose?

The purpose of discussion boards is to deepen student understanding of the material, create a place for peer tutoring, and to show the instructor what you know.

With that in mind, you should be sure to address all questions with 4 to 5 sentences.  It would also be good to include evidence and or examples from the material.

When replying to others (two minimum) you should discuss material, go deeper and clarify.  You do not need to tell people they did a good job, you need to tell them and me why it was a good job.  Discuss the material.

Thanks and have a great year!

Welcome to RVS World History,

The course houses both College Prep and Honors. You will do the same discussion boards but have different exams and writing assignments. Let me know if you have any problems. Please, be sure and do your best work and use proper grammar and spelling. You should always complete assignments in order and not skip around in the course.

Each Unit has a Course of Study. In that section there is always a Discussion Board to complete. Do not forget these. All Discussion Boards require an original posts and two replies to other students to obtain full credit. Be sure to develop your ideas fully and provide evidence and examples to substantiate your claims. You should cite the source of your information. If you need help with this see me.

Assignments should be turned in as documents. This makes grading easier. At the end of each Unit there is a proctored exam. You must take that here at RVS.

A few bits of advise from your teacher. 1) Do not rush. Do it right the first time and you will save time and effort. 2) All work is academic and should be rigorous and use correct ELA conventions. 3) Be sure to use evidence from the readings and cite it. Looking forward to a productive year.

Good Luck Mr. Dillon
